Waiting for the Washer

One of our big projects planned for this trip was buying a washing machine.

Having our laundry done is one of the few "pricey" things we have encountered here.  Here are a couple of laundry shots from previous years:

So Linda consulted a few contacts like the neighbor lady and a couple of friends and determined that the Ideal Zanussi is the machine of choice.  We placed a "factory direct" order on Friday.  Delivery was scheduled for Saturday.  We expected delivery between 5 and 6 pm.  Waiting is a big part of life in Cairo.  We waited.  We phoned.  "The truck is on the road!"  But no machine.  I went to bed at 3:00 a.m.

On Sunday, delivery was possible (keeping us around the apartment) but was finally scheduled for Monday.  "Between 5 and 6 pm," again.  Our friend who was doing the arranging showed up at 5 pm. sharp.  We waited.  Linda made a nice American-style veal stew for dinner.  We waited.  At 8 p.m. the bell rang.  Our washer is now in the living room.

Installation is scheduled for "Wednesday, in sha'allah." (God willing!)
