More Shops

(Reminder: You can click on any photo to enlarge it!)

Most shops in Egypt carry only a single line of goods. It is usually pretty easy to figure out what is being sold. It might be a butcher shop.

Or a spice shop.

Or even a car dealer. This one is selling the new Chery, a Chineese car. It is known just as "the China Car" or "Cheena car" as it is pronounced here. This seems to be a pretty low-budget dealership - but it is a low-budget car. About $9,000 with 50% down, the rest on monthly payments. People here have a lot of skepticism about its long-term reliability.

In a bazaar like Khan el-Khalili, you might see a mixture of goods. Nice sandals!

In a tourist area, the shops are pretty well marked. Here is a film store in Luxor making the painful transition to the digital age right along with the Kodak Corporation. I suspect the sunglasses may have to pick up quite a bit of slack.

We passed this store in a car several times without ever noticing what the business was until we needed an extra key for our building's front door.

Sometimes shops are just what they claim to be.

Other times, not so much.

And what American could resist visiting this shop to spend some money.
